Paracute

The first person to think of a parachute was Leonardo da Vinci. He designed it like a pyramid with a square shaped base. However, the first man to use a parachute was a Frenchman, J. P. Blanchard. In 1785, he put his dog in a basket and attached the basket to a parachute. Then he dropped it from a balloom after it had gained considerable altitude. Having successfully tried a parachute, Blanchard himself descended from a balloon in a parachute. But as he was about to land, the parachute toppled and his leg was fractured.
Another Frenchman J. garnerin jumped from a height of more than 600 metres from a baloom using a parachute. That was in 1797 in Paris. He had himself designed his parachute. When his daughter Elisa Garnerin grew up, do you know whtat profession she selected? She selected a new profession - parachute jumping! She travelled widely in Europe and America and did parachute jumps for fun and exhibits. Great fun indeed! And risky too!
